Popis: OCCULT is a CO2 laser heterodyne communications system conceived to meet the Navy's need for ship -to -shipcommunications with high immunity to jamming and intercept. The opto- mechanical systems integration in thedevelopment of OCCULT was instrumental in demonstrating the first use of automatic acquisition, high datarate, narrow beam optical communications between ships at sea.IntroductionThis paper describes the opto- mechanical systems engineering considerations for the Navy OCCULT system.(II.22 ) OCCULT is the acronym for Optical Covert Communications Using Laser Transceivers, an experi-mental research and development effort at the Naval Ocean Systems Center. OCCULT is a CO2 laser heterodynecommunication system which provides ship -to -ship communications over a full duplex 5 -MHz channel. Its features include automatic acquisition, reciprocal tracking and Stark cell stabilized tunable lasers. In 1976 the OCCULT equipment was used to perform experiments to determine the propagation effects of a
