Popis: Summary The results of an investigation of different an˦sthetic methods for infants requiring cleft palate surgery are presented. During ether an˦sthesia blood loss was substantial, tachycardia pronounced and acid-base imbalance considerable. The condition of the baby in the post-operative period was often poor. Blood loss was small and there was no acid-base upset when controlled respiration (IPPV) was used, but the method may present technical drawbacks in such small patients. Blood loss was also minimal when methoxyflurane was administered and in spite of some metabolic acidosis the condition of the patients following surgery was satisfactory. It is felt that this agent provides most suitable an˦sthesia for infants requiring correction of cleft palate deformities.
