Measurements of iodine speciation in aqueous solution at 285{degree}C and 1000 psig show a higher percentage as I{sub 2} in solutions at tracer concentrations than at higher concentrations. A 1 {times} 10{sup {minus}9} M I{sup {minus}} solution resulted in 2% I{sub 2} whereas a 1 {times} 10{sup {minus}4} M I{sup {minus}} solution had only 0.1% I{sub 2}. Tests of primary coolant from operating reactors had a peak in percent I{sub 2} at shutdown, with an increase in volatile species up to 20% of the total iodine. During normal power operation, primary coolant percent I{sub 2} was generally lower than the detection limit. 18 refs., 14 figs., 14 tabs. |
