Magnetic susceptibility measurements, between 0·3 and 630°K, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance measurements in the metallic phase are presented. In the low temperature monoclinic insulating phase a moment of 2·53±0·15 μB is associated with each niobium impurity. Forx x ≤0·10 in the high temperature rutile metallic phase, the magnetic susceptibility increases with Nb concentration; The NMR results show that most of the increase is located on the V sites; no Curie-Weiss behaviour is observed. For x ≥0·15, in the high temperature rutile insulating phase, Curie-Weiss laws corresponding to a complete localization of the d electrons are obtained. |
