Appropriate measuring techniques must be used to investigate the treatment and transport of rainwater runoff because of the speed and suddenness of the weather phenomena that cause this runoff. Evaluation of the effectiveness of a rainwater treatment system (Swirl Concentrator - SC) and of the retention in a network, with continuous pollution measurement using optical sensors (turbidimeters), shows that this technique is especially well suited to this type of investigation. The specific efficiency of the treatment unit during the 27 rainfall events recorded is a mean reduction of Suspended Solids by 56 %. When retention in the upstream part of the network is taken into account, this efficiency is increased to 69 %, a satisfactory value. However, comparison with a conventional storm overflow does not show a much better efficiency of the Swirl Concentrator, at least not within the range of flowrates measured in the five months the study lasted. |
