We consider laminar flow of an electrically conducting fluid in an annulus between two infinitely long, perfectly conducting cylinders subject to an azimuthal magnetic field. The conducting fluid is driven by a pressure gradient, either constant or harmonic. The magnetohydrodynamic equations governing the flow have been solved under the inductionless approximation assuming a small annular gap compared to the inner radius. As the magnetic force increases, the flow slows down as in the Hartmann problem, notwithstanding the absence of Hartmann boundary layers. |
