Popis: | Research indicates that visualization, a procedure that involves asking speakers to imagine themselves making a successful presentation, is an effective way to reduce communication apprehension (for an overview of much of this research see Ayres, Hopf, & Ayres 1997). The present investigation was designed to determine if the conclusions drawn about the impact of visualization is similar when people generate original drawings or when they select drawings from a prepared set to represent how they envision themselves as public speakers. These data indicate that visualization had a similar effect regardless of whether people provided their own drawings or made a selection from a prepared set. These findings and their implications are discussed at the conclusion of this report. |
