Genetic effects of low chronic doses of γ-irradiation on the waxy locus of barley

Popis:	Barley plants, variety Monlon , were grown in the natural site of the French C.E.A. at Cadarache. The plots were placed at various distances from a Cs-137 source, so that the dose rates were 2 × 10 −5 (control), 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 rad/h. The genetic effects of radiations were measured as frequencies of waxy mutant pollen grains. The response was linear, in agreement with previous findings on the a 1 + / a 1 a 2 + / a 2 system of tobacco grown under similar conditions.
