Static Deformation of Orthotropic Spherical Shell Using Fifth Order Shear and Normal Deformation Theory

Popis: The static analysis of orthotropic spherical shell using a new fifth order shear and normal deformation theory is presented. The polynomial shape functions are used in the displacement field to account the effect of shear and normal deformations. The governing equations and appropriate boundary conditions are derived using the principle of virtual work. To obtain the static deformation the Navier's solution scheme is employed based on Fourier series. The efficacy, reliability and accuracy of the present theory is verified by comparing the present result of the non-dimensional transverse deflection with previously published results. It is concluded that the present theory yield accurate prediction of static deformation compared to other theories.
