Popis: The paper presents a study of the recent geodynamic setting for a region located southeast of Sofia. The research area includes the Ihtiman graben and part of the Sofia complex graben – a region with a high concentration of small seismicity. The study combines an analysis of the geodetic measurements – GPS and spirit levelling, geologic and seismic data. Based on the results obtained the tectonic model for an extension development of the earth crust for that part of the country is veritied. The GPS velocities contirmed the presence of a right-lateral strike-slip movement along the Ishlr fault zone, established by geological data. On the other site the velocities of the points at the two sides of the Zheleznitsa fault do not allow to suppose a motion along it as suggested by geological data. There are not detectable vertical and horizontal movements along the fault segment passing southeast from the dam Bakardere in the area of the experimental geodetic network near the village Verinsko. This investigation is a contribution to clarifying the contemporary geodinamic setting in this region.
