Popis: The anterior approach to the thoracic spine has unique benefits and limitations and can be done by both open and minimally invasive techniques. This approach provides excellent access to the anterior aspects of the thoracic spine and limits manipulation of the spinal cord. Although theoretically beneficial, there are limited high-quality studies comparing minimally invasive and open procedures. Nevertheless, evidence for improved outcomes for both open and minimally invasive procedures has been described. The purpose of this chapter to is examine the benefits and limitations of both open and minimally invasive anterior thoracic decompression and fusion. The indications for surgery, as well as specific techniques, postoperative care, and outcomes will also be discussed.
