Popis: Sustainable engineering solutions have always been one of the main priority requirements for most project owners, in countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) undergoing rapid infrastructure development, not only from environment considerations but also to address efficiently local geohazards and to optimize design and construction process. One of the main geohazards for the linear coastline of UAE is risk due to cavities and collapse/karst features within the mudstone and gypsum upper rock formations. In this paper a case study is discussed where robust geotechnical and geophysical data has been evaluated and efficiently combined in a 3D ground model to identify the presence and extent of underground anomalies, subsequent to identification of a cavity beneath a reservoir foundation in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The identification of locations of hazard zones then assisted in developing efficient and sustainable ground remediation program by means of grouting. The paper describes in detail how the geotechnical, geophysical and observation data were combined which helped to identify with reasonable level of confidence the regions that needed ground remediation and to derive the technical specification and ground remediation plan, thus ensuring the mitigation of hazard and foundation’s long term stability.
