It is well-recognized that older women have a lower chance of pregnancy even with in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Advanced maternal age (AMA) women, defined in the review as being ≥ 42-year-old, are advised to consider oocyte donation as the best option for their infertility. Oocyte donation is not favored by patients. It is illegal in certain countries and some people may renounce it for religious reasons. Disappointingly, studies related to many aspects of the management of women with AMA using autologous oocyte are lacking. This review summarizes age-related oocytes' physiological changes, discusses the couple's counseling, explores available management, and highlights areas where more studies are needed. |
