The aim of paper is to evaluate the thermo-technical parameters of various types of bedding surfaces used in cubicles as a factor of well-being of dairy cows during winter and summer periods. Cubicles with deepened stall base bedded with straw or separated manure slurry, and cubicles with elevated stall base covered with rubber mattresses filled with water have been evaluated. The cubicle beds filled with a thick layer of organic litter form an excellent insulator with a low heat capacity in the dry state (thermal resistance R=2,91m2KW-1 and effusivity b=162,3 W.s1/2.m-2.K), which quickly adapts to the animal body temperature and prevents its hypothermia. Water mattress in cubicles creates a better heat conductor with lower heat resistance and high heat capacity (R=0,184 m2KW-1; b=706,2 W.s1/2.m-2.K), which provides better heat transfer from animals in summer. This cooler floor needs more time to cope with animal body temperature. |
