Popis: Westinghouse is developing an advanced, natural-gas-fired, combustion turbine system that will produce electricity at net efficiencies exceeding 60% (LHV). The 8-year development program, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Morgantown Energy Technology Center, incorporates innovations and advances in component design, materials, and cycle configurations. As part of the program, a conceptual evaluation of the adaptation of the system to the use of coal-based fuels has been conducted. Fluidized bed coal gasification with hot gas cleaning, and advanced pressurized fluidized bed combustion have both been assessed. These coal-based applications are described and their potential performance and development issues with respect to the required turbine modifications are reviewed.Copyright © 1995 by ASME
