Popis: Urban design is considered in light of differing forms of environmental manipulation by individuals. Manipulations done for reasons of peer group acceptability or fashionableness are classified as “passive structuring” of the environment. Manipulations representing extensions of self or “self-expression” are referred to as “active structuring” of the environment. Various types of structuring are illustrated and their implications for urban design practice discussed.
