Popis:	The N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-catalyzed monoacylation of vicinal diols is described. Monoacylated compounds of 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-diols are obtained in good yields and selectivity under mild reaction conditions at ambient temperature.
