Permissionless blockchains are decentralized and scalable, but they are extremely slow in transactional processing and are wasteful of computation resource. Permissioned blockchains are fast and efficient, but they are not scalable and are prone to centralization. This work proposes a novel semi-permissionless blockchain framework taking benefits from both worlds: being decentralized, scalable, but fast and efficient. Public nodes are randomly selected to join a committee executing agreement protocol to secure blocks. The key idea is the introduction of trusted nodes to improve several aspects of the protocol: transaction execution is separated from agreement, thus reducing agreement latency and allowing the participation of lightweight nodes; agreement protocol is simplified for better performance and easier implementation. |
