Popis: Chlorosomes are membrane-attached antenna complexes containing BCh1 c (or d or e in some strains) and small amounts of BCh1 a that occur in both Chlorobiaceae and Chloroflexaceae (Blankenship et al., 1988a), even though these bacterial families are not closely related (Woese, 1987). Although the chlorosomes in the two families have identical functions, some structural differences have been noted in the size of the internal rod elements (Feick and Fuller,1984; Wechsler et al., 1985; Gerola et al.,1988; Wagner-Huber et al., 1988) and in their mode of attachment to the cytoplasmic membrane (Staehelin et al., 1980; Sprague et al., 1981).
