Psychologists’ obligations and responsibilities when providing forensic services manifest differently than when they are providing therapeutic services. The sources of authority that impose obligations upon psychologists, who psychologists’ clients are, to whom psychologists owe a duty, whose interests psychologists must be consider when acting, and how obligations of privacy apply are just a few examples of this. Discussed in this chapter are key sources of authority that impose obligations upon psychologists when providing forensic services, some key distinctions in how general ethical obligations manifest in forensic settings, and recommendations for how the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association can be revised to better account for these many differences. |
