Popis: In order to illustrate Euler's equations for rotation, we have constructed an apparatus in which a circular disc is attached to horizontal axle, such that the disc axis and axle are at a 45° angle. The total angular momentum and constant angular velocity vectors are therefore not collinear. The first experiment measured the torque necessary to maintain a fixed axis of rotation. After the constraining torque is removed, the resulting oscillation makes an interesting demonstration of the thrust produced by an off-axis wheel. The amplitude of the axle's oscillation around a vertical axis has been measured and analysed using angular momentum vectors in a rotating system.
