Certain Central European sites with complex evidence from systematic excavations, such as Prezletice in Bohemia, Vertesszolos in Hungary, or Bilzingsleben in Central Germany, play a key role in the current discussions about exactly when representatives of the Homo erectus/early Homo sapiens grade colonized this part of the Old World, as well as in understanding human adaptations in the high latitudes in general. However, Moravia, in spite of its central geographic location, was scarcely settled during these early periods (Figure 4.1). |
