Popis: | A mathematical model of a continuous culture of photo-autotrophic organisms in a cylindrical culture vessel with light as the growth-limiting factor is presented. The effect of light intensity was modelled according to a Monod-type equation. Light absorbance in the culture was considered to follow Lambert-Beer's law. The model permits the formulation of a mathematical expression for the relation between biomass concentration and continuous culture dilution rate. To verify the theoretical conclusions experiments were performed with the green alga Scenedesmus acutus. From the experimental data a value for the maintenance factor of this green alga was calculated. |
