Samples from twelve rainwater collectors in The Netherlands were stored under three different conditions: (i) in the light at room temperature, (ii) in the dark at room temperature and (iii) in the dark at 4°C. In samples stored at room temperature considerable changes occurred in ammonium and phosphate concentrations both in the light and in the dark. Minor changes were also observed for potassium, calcium, chloride, sulphate and nitrate. Storage of rainwater samples in the dark at 4°C resulted in a satisfactory sample preservation. |
