Popis: | High fuel prices and government regulations are putting more effort on automakers to provide fuel-efficient vehicles. However, customer expectations limit the amount of reduction in performance and refinement that is commonly accompanied with improved fuel economy. As such, it is critical that the automotive manufacturers utilize new technologies and strategies to achieve significant reductions in fuel consumption with minimal impact to vehicle behavior. In order to do so, further optimization of the internal combustion engine must be explored. This chapter outlines several potential strategies and new technologies that enable better fuel consumption for future automotive vehicles. Keywords: fuel economy; fuel consumption; friction; throttling losses; accessories; downsizing; turbocharging; regulations; efficiency |
