The Battle of Princeton on January 3, 1777 was General George Washington’s first victory in the field against British regulars. Following hard on the heels of American victories in the First (December 26, 1776) and Second Battles of Trenton (January 2, 1777), these three engagements—termed the 10 Crucial Days—mark a turning point in the American War of Independence. They established Washington as a superb strategist, forced Crown Forces to contract their lines and shift to garrison warfare in New Jersey, and buoyed the flagging American spirit and resolve to continue the war. |
