This paper gives a description of the vacuum vessel and indicates the main design criteria. The results of the studies carried out during the design phase and which cover the mechanical behaviour of the chamber during its operation and in particular during plasma hard radial disruptions are reported. The fabrication and assembly of the octants, the particular aspects and problems met during the manufacture of the rigid sectors and bellows assemblies are presented. Finally the assembly and preparation of the vacuum chamber are briefly reported. |
