In almost every society, gender roles and expectations affect individual lives, confining them in cages regardless of gender. Gender equality problems work against women and result in the creation of male-dominated systems. Women, the main subject of oppression, exploitation, and discrimination, are identified only with the private sphere and jobs in the private sphere. Men, on the other hand, as the rulers of the public sphere, isolate themselves from all kinds of jobs that are feminine and associated with the private sphere. Therefore, with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting Turkey, it is critical to reveal what changes have led to or whether such a change has been involved in centuries of sexism . The pandemic effect is significant because men experience the domestic/private sphere for the first time. The domestic/private sphere experiences of men who stay away from the public sphere and activities will determine whether there is any change in the gender-related roles and expectations and hegemonic masculinity patterns. This study was designed with this purpose and implemented with qualitative research methods. Specifically, we investigate the experiences of men staying at home during the pandemic, the processes of adaptation to the private sphere, the degree of sexist practices, the division of labor in the home/private area during the process, and the extent of the pressure and violence women experience during this period. |
