From the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic to date, an unprecedented number of patients with severe forms of respiratory failure were admitted to intensive care units (ICU) worldwide and underwent invasive mechanical ventilation. Prolonged invasive mechanical ventilation is among the risk factors to develop ventilator‐associated pneumonia (VAP). The rate of VAP in patients with COVID-19 is unclear. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to estimate the pooled occurrence of VAP and mortality among patients with COVID-19 admitted to intensive care units. We also aim at collecting data on demographical and microbiological characteristics of the same population. |
