Thermochemical study of carbon fibres based on polyacrylonitrile modified by boron

Popis: By determining experimentally the combustion enthalpy of carbon fibres modified by boron it was concluded that boron nitride is formed mainly by heat treatment of fibres and that this compound influences graphitization of the carbon fibre. This conclusion was confirmed by results of analytical determination of boron and nitrogen contents in carbon fibres at different temperatures of heat treatment. Analysis of mechanical properties of fibres suggests that an increase in the elasticity modulus of carbon fibres modified by boron is due to a slight increase in the degree of graphitization and not the specific effect of boron contained in the solid solution.
