New Biotype of Acyrthosiphon kondoi (Homoptera: Aphididae) on Alfalfa in Oklahoma

Popis:	Symptoms of susceptibility to Acyrthosiphon kondoi Shinji in previously resistant alfalfas were observed in 1991 in Oklahoma. In a series of experiments conducted with A. kondoi collected in 1991 and 1992, the aphids proved to be much more virulent on resistant cultivars such as ‘CUF 101’ than those collected before 1991. When aphid numbers and plant responses were recorded for individual seedlings, the rate of reproduction was similar on both resistant (CUF 101 and ‘OK 51’) and susceptible (‘PA-l’ and ‘Are’) standards as was the damage sustained. There is sufficient evidence to confirm the existence of a new biotype that has been designated at this time BAOK90.
