The industrialization of biopolymer and protein feed production is facing major issues due to an increase in the raw material cost. Globally, food waste is a major burden with severe environmental impacts, however it has the potential to be used as a carbon source for the production of bioproducts. This chapter deals with the conversion of food waste into value-added bioproducts like biopolymers, single-cell oil, polysaccharides, baker’s yeast, and single-cell protein. The chapter also deals with the major economic aspects needed to move these production process toward commercialization. |
