Popis: Tuberculosis (TB) progression is associated with immune status. The aim of this study was to assess immune response in 2 groups of non-HIV infected patients with active pulmonary TB; 72 patients with newly discovered drug-sensitive active pulmonary TB (DS-TB) (Group I), 28 patients with multi-drug resistance pulmonary TB (MDR-TB) (Group II), and a third group of 22 tuberculin-reactive, healthy control from defined area of Upper Egypt (Assiut). Clinical, radiological, markers of cellular and humoral immunities were assessed. Radiologically, (69.6%) of Group 1 had moderately advanced disease and all patients with MDR-TB had far advanced disease. Compared to control group, IgG (A60) level was higher among newly discovered cases (p 0.05). In conclusion, our data suggest that humoral immunity, INFg, TGF-β, TNF-a, and b-2M play an important role in active pulmonary TB and correlate with disease severity and the development of resistance to antituberculous therapy.
