One of the main findings of the Phebus FP bundle melt down tests is that in the bundle, at the end of the test, just below the lower spacer grid a pool of molten materials forms and the rod-like geometry is completely lost. The computer simulations carried out by the mechanistic, single-rod SVECHA/QUENCH (S/Q) code revealed the formation mechanism of molten pool and explained its material composition. The main results of the S/Q simulations and the underlying mathematical model of the molten pool oxidation are overviewed. |
