Popis: The high incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) lead to many complications that accompany it, one of which macrovascular disorders such as Peripheral Arterial diseas (PAD). AHA recommends for measuring Angkel Bracial index (ABI) in patients with DM is used as an early detection of PAD conditions. On the basis of this study aimed to determine the correlation of blood sugar levels with ABI values mellitus diabetes patients treated in inpatient Islam Ibn Sina Hospital Bukittinggi in 2013, in recognition of the correlation between blood sugar levels with a value of ABI, the ABI can be used as an early alarm occurrence of further complications of DM. The study was a non-experimental study with cross sectional approach. The population in this study were patients with diabetes mellitus who were treated in inpatient and surgical interne Islam Ibn Sina Hospital Bukittinggi. The sample in this study amounted to 38 people who were taken with consecutive sampling technique, was conducted from July 15 to August 15 2013. Instrument in this study using digital glukometer to get blood sugar levels as well as diabetic patients using Doppler and Aneroid sphygmomanometer to obtain arterial systolic pressure of bracialis, posterior tibial artery and dorsalis pedis artery that will be used to get the value of ABI. Of the 38 samples obtained an average fasting blood sugar 126.34 mg / dL, and the average value Angkel Bracial index (ABI) 0.95. Pearson test results obtained sig p = 0.002 p (≤ 0.05), r = - 0.497. This means that the higher the blood sugar levels of patients ABI values will be smaller. By knowing the correlation of blood sugar levels with ABI values expected no special SOP established hospitals to perform ABI measurements in patients with diabetes mellitus, so the nurse as a care giver can take appropriate action to address the problems found.
