In the literature, six young adults who presented with severe dysautonomic orthostatic hypotension, had a dopamine B-hydroxylase (DBH) deficiency. This enzyme catalyses the conversion of dopamine to norepinephrine (NE). We describe two old patients with severe orthostatic hypotension in whom the diagnosis of DBH deficiency has been established. The administration of dihydroxyphenylserine (DOPS), drug wich is converted to NE by a dopa decarboxylase, resulted in significant increase in blood pressure. |
