Correlation of physical and mechanical properties of Jurassic sandstone in Jining, Shandong province

Popis: The study on the correlation of rock physical and mechanical properties is of great significance to infer the engineering geological conditions of regional strata. Based on the systematic physical and mechanical properties test results of Jurassic strata (26 sandstone strata, including siltstone, fine sandstone, mid-sandstone) of a mine in Shandong, China, the correlation between natural unit weight (γn), saturated unit weight (γs), moisture content (MC), water absorption (WA), porosity (n), P-wave velocity (Vp), uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), Brazil tensile strength (BTS), and elastic modulus (E) are studied by using statistical and data fitting methods. The results show that the natural unit weight has an excellent linear positive correlation with the saturation unit weight and a linear negative correlation with the porosity. There is a high correlation between UCS and modulus elasticity, UCS and BTS, moisture content, and P-wave velocity. Porosity and P-wave velocity show a moderate correlation and an excellent linear relationship between water absorption. Revealing a part of the mechanism of rock correlation, based on the above correlation, some empirical formulas with high reliability are fitted, and significance test is performed on the correlation coefficients. The research results have important reference value for the identification of some parameters which are not easy to obtain or expensive.
