Popis: Indian financial setup began under the parental care of the government rules and regulations and privatization got a humungous fillip only after the liberalization era. But liberalization has its own responsibilities and challenges. This paper will basically explore the strengths and weaknesses of Indian banking system expanding its market on international arena and the vitality of Basel norms in Indian Perspective. The basic objectives of this paper are banking system and the Indian economy in the pre-liberalized era, pros and cons of bank expansion in the current uncertain world economy, analyzing the extent of credit availability and its impact on Indian financial market, assessing the impact of Basel (iii) norms on Indian banking system and its future.With the upcoming of Narasimham committee reports (i) and (ii) in 1992 and 1998 respectively, the Indian banking sector has become more resilient. But with time changes in its functional pattern is required to make the banking system more strong and capable to sustain itself in the changing world scenario. Therefore the role of bank expansion and proper regulation to maintain the diversity in its structure is need of the hour. Further a strong banking setup is a must for an emerging economy like India. Appropriate policies will not only make the financial market more strong but will also assist in financial inclusion so that the gross domestic product of the country can be enhanced.
