Popis: Corticosterone (I), 16α-methyl-Δ 1 -corticosterone (II) and 16α-methyl-9α-fluoro-Δ 1 -corticosterone (III) were assayed in the rat. I was found to behave as a true antiinflammatory steroid, although somewhat less active than cortisol. It exerted a kaliuretic action, but was without effect on urinary sodium excretion. The anti-inflammatory and thymolytic activities were greater in the 16α-methyl-Δ 1 derivative than in I and further enhancement was observed after 9α-fluoro substitution. II and III exerted kaliuretic and natriuretic actions. Compared to prednisolone and dexamethasone, II and III have shown, at equal anti-inflammatory dose levels, definitely lower growth inhibiting action.
