After 25 years, it is appropriate to look back, in a celebratory and personal way, at the two academic embodiments of the specialty of pharmaceutical medicine in the United Kingdom (UK). It is also timely to do so as each will continue to offer future generations of novice pharmaceutical physicians a basic training, as part of a postgraduate training programme that will lead to specialist registration. It is apt to begin with the recollections of Sir Abraham (Abe) Goldberg, who was on the initial committee that formed the Diploma examination, was the chairman of the Board of Examiners for the first 13 years, until he became the first President of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine. |
