The role of contact angles and contact angle hysteresis in dropwise condensation heat transfer

Popis: Data were obtained for dropwise condensation of steam on well-prepared and characterized surfaces. The results show that the heat-transfer in dropwise condensation of water vapour strongly depends on the hysteresis of the contact angle. The surface conductance increases with decreasing contact angle hysteresis and values of the heat-transfer coefficient of up to 340000W (m 2 K) , ( 60000 Btu h ft 2 °F ), were obtained. Detailed experimental results are presented for different surface characteristics.
