Image enhancement is already a challenging process and is further intensified due to image degradation by several factors like absorption, reflection, bending and scattering of light. The light is attenuated while travelling underwater thereby causing different wavelengths of light to have varied attenuation rates. As the blue and green color have shorter wavelengths, these colors are prevalent in underwater images as compared to other colors. In this paper, we explore different color models for enhancement of underwater image using CLAHE followed by Guided filter. Initially, CLAHE is applied on the image to enhance the colour contrast. Secondly, the Guided filter is applied on the resultant image to further enhance the contrast and resolve lack of lighting. |
