Electromagnetic (EM) energy has been commonly adopted in our daily lives in recent decades; human safety issues of EM waves have continuously been a concern to the public. Look directly into the human cells to define the radiation and emission requirements for human safety, experiments have been conducted, pioneering the biomedical impact of Electromagnetic radiation exposure to cell cultures. This project aims at an original investigation on the effect of human cell cultures exposed to certain EM fields, the apoptosis rate was studied. Both the homogeneous magnetic field and 1.8GHz exposure system were set up. Several cells were used in the magnetic field for 48hours, the apoptosis rate of all the treated cells are significantly higher than controlled cells. In 1.8GHz EM fields, Hela cells were exposure for 24 and 48hours, we can find there is an increase in apoptosis rate in the second 24 hour. While the necrosis remained stable. From the results, we may conclude that under EM field exposure, human tumor cells will induce apoptosis. |
