Popis: | How and up to what extent can the alteration in a surface caused by eroding particles affect the flow and/or erosion in subsequent time-steps? These are the questions that the current work seeks to address. For this purpose, a pseudo-transient 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model was adopted to investigate solid particle erosion in a submerged jet impingement geometry under liquid-solid flow conditions. The change in the shape of the surface was accounted for through dynamic deformation of the solid wall surface and computational mesh based on local erosion rates at regular time intervals. In this case, as particles impacted the surface, the erosion magnitudes at different locations were calculated and the surface profile and CFD mesh were correspondingly modified and then, the flow solution was updated. It was noticed that the transformation in specimen surface altered the particle impact characteristics and thus, the erosion rates. |
