Visualization of acoustic scattering from submerged sphere

Popis: The scattering of harmonic, plane waves from an aluminum sphere and a rigid sphere were visualized using normal mode series solutions displayed on an IRIS‐4D color graphic super workstation. The temporal behavior of the scattered pressure fields were studied in the frequency region for 1 < ka < 7 in the region surrounding the scatterer. The effects of elasticity, namely the existence of Rayleigh‐type waves, were seen after the field scattered from a rigid sphere was subtracted from the field scattered from the aluminum sphere. The nearfield formation of a null at ka = ∼5.5 near the bistatic angle of 155° was seen in a video presentation of the temporal behavior.
