This study provides a brief review of the past five centuries, emphasizing several historic milestones in the development of life sciences in terms of highly appreciated numerical findings and statistics. These developments prepared the way for the birth of evidence-based epidemiology. Among others, there are reviewed the works of Sanctorio Sanctorius, John Graunt, William Farr, and the discoveries of John Snow, as well as the systems of public health improvements and statistics in Europe and the USA respectively. |
