Popis: The chemical industry is the largest and demanding industry on the earth and also the principal polluter of water. It generates enormous quantities of complex chemical substances as part of unused materials in the form of wastewater during various stages of processing. The treatment/purification of wastewater forms a significant economic and environmental issue. Therefore the treatment of sewage has been receiving considerable attention in the past few years. This book chapter is based on the recent research on TiO2 photocatalytic treatment applied to the purification of wastewater. In the past years, the heterogeneous photocatalysis process using the semiconductor titanium dioxide (TiO2) has shown considerable promise as a sustainable, economical, and environmentally friendly treatment technology and aligns with the “zero” waste policy in the water/wastewater industry. These advanced oxidation processes can remove/degrade various hazardous organic compounds present in wastewater. Also, the effectiveness of this oxidation technology for the purification of wastewater has been demonstrated in numerous studies. Optimal operational conditions and degradation pathways of various hazardous chemical compounds found in wastewater have been discussed. The main conclusion is that the use of TiO2 photocatalysis can be considered a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment methodology.
