Popis: Including “One Health” in the title of a publication or a grant was a way to get noticed. However, getting these same stakeholders, these experts in human health, animal health, and the environment, to agree on a definition of One Health has been challenging, to say the least. In the 20th century, two veterinarians stand out as pioneers in One Health: James Steele and Calvin Schwabe. In 1947, Steele founded a veterinary public health unit in what is today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and was Chief of this division. From a One Health perspective, the keeping of livestock in a responsible manner can be accomplished within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, and can even help in achieving most of these goals. Humans have benefited greatly from the many discoveries derived from the study of animals under observational or experimental conditions.
