Lifetime Enhancement of the CHeX Cryogenic System

Popis: The Confined Helium Experiment (CHeX) is manifested for flight on the Space Shuttle (STS-87) in November, 1997. The experiment was constrained to re-use a previously flown flight cryogenic system. However, the inherited system did not meet CHeX science requirements, nor current Shuttle launch requirements; enhancements of the system and procedures were required. We present model and data of the full flight system, before and after the enhancements were made. A discussion of procedural changes and their impact on the system are also presented. With the changes, all Shuttle servicing requirements were met. A net improvement in ground servicing of 30% and a net parasitic reduction of 15% were achieved. Predicted flight performance is also presented.
