Popis: The FIRS-2 spectrometer system is used to make accurate measurements of many stratospheric molecular species. The experimental method is to measure mid-infrared and far-infrared thermal emission spectra of the stratosphere, from a balloon-borne platform, at a discrete number of limb elevation angles. The analysis technique is to do a least-squares fit of a theoretical spectrum (calculated from a model mixing-ratio profile) to each measured emission line spectrum.
